Plot verses Theme

The terms “theme” and “plot”  that I am discussing  applies to writing fiction. This is a simplistic explanation, and I encourage new and aspiring writers to further research. Here goes:

Theme is the concept of your story and should be able to be summed up in a few words, or a sentence:

Who done it?

Love conquers all obstacles (time, distance, species, social strata, death)

My (Hero or heroine) physical need could destroy the one I love.

Sacrifice loyalty/ love of family or culture for  true love that is not approved of by family or culture.

Plot is the map, diagram, events, plan of action that the author of the  theme “uses” to direct the theme to its conclusion.
